 The garret of paintings

The story of 10 objects going down in history.

They were 10 objects to get rid of, potential trash ready to feed the huge dump which is taking possession of our planet little by little.

10 objects taken from a multitude of things encumbering our lives, homes, garrets, shop windows and the even more overcrowded on-line windows.

Recognisable objects anyway…made unique by the apparently unwitting effect that time had on them.

Yes, maybe a little bit time-worn objects.

But one day an artist gave birth to an idea carving it in her destiny, making her 10 objects turn into images written with light.

They fake their beauty and meaning with the help of a camera like fighting top-models on the pages of a glossy-magazine.

But this is not art yet, in fact the pictures at issue are not an end to themselves.

The pictures have imprisoned their souls. But the “top-models” are for sale.

They are not smiley escorts looking out from the unblemished window of a “high-class” gallery but…

... “Come on ladies and gentlemen” these “things” show their real aspect through the endless on-line windows.

Like bitches they courageously put their destiny in the hands of the tremendously wide and protean audience overcrowding the web.

They are for sale on e-bay!! For sale for the amazing lottery of chromosomes as an unknown buyer can be…and for little money.

Up to here the story is not that original…

The best of it comes when the artist at issue following her idea decides to pick up this challenge which will be part of her artistic career.

When the unknown buyer will purchase one of these objects, a candlestick for example, he will receive this message:

“You’ve just been awarded of a Sheffield candlestick”

I bought the same object some time ago more or less at the same price you did.

I’m a painter and I wonder if you’ll ever ask yourself about the story even if not that old around this object or other similar ones which are surrounding you now.

This idea could in fact stir up the fantasy of many artful novelists and give birth to thousands of editable stories.

But we don’t care about the past.

Thankfully the most important thing to me is your future I want to play and interact with.

We have both the power with the help of  instances to give the item you bought a totally new value.

The very fact that you have bought my object will allow me to capture its soul with a picture (you’ll receive a print of it for free signed by the artist) hoping it will become a real masterpiece.

An oil painting work of art entitled “****** *****’s candlestick” obviously your name will appear at the place of the asterisks.

And maybe one day your name will be in the history of art insofar as I will of course.

By the way this was not your aim, you just wanted to buy a candlestick didn’t you? But if it ever happened so much the better!

At the end of this project entitled “the garret of paintings” my 10 paintings will be shown during a final exhibition, each one of them will portray the 10 objects that you and other e-bayers have decided to buy.

All the new owners of these portrayed objects will be welcomed to the exhibition for the unveiling of my works.

Of course there is no purchase obligation like in every respectable and good promotion.

I’ll tell you even more…if the painting portraying your object will be sold you’ll be amicably refunded the price of it.

Think about it…at present I’m an artist like many others and you could be anybody on this planet.

By this tacit agreement I’ll do my best to make out of my career something brilliant in order to bring value to that painting entitled with your name.

At the same time I hope you’ll make your name worth it to become one with my work, applying yourself to go beyond your limits doing your best in your field and in life in general.

The object you bought as symbol and memory of this exchange will bring you undoubtedly a lot of luck!

                                                     Yours faithfully
